The WCFB Marine-Division (MD) was created after the fusion of the smaller Fire Brigades in the region into the WCFB. All these smaller Fire departments had their own fire ships/boats and next to this was the Port Authority, which also had it's own ships and crews. In the early 90's the WCFB and Port Authority decided to merge all equipment and personnel into one single Marine Division under the WCFB. Since then the WCFB has been responsible for all tasks in the harbour and on sea, ranging from rescues, patrol, prevention to actual firefighting.
